Landing Pages vs Websites: What's the Difference?

Landing Pages vs Websites: What's the Difference?

'Landing page' and 'website' are often used interchangeably, but they serve very different purposes. Understanding the distinction can save you money and dramatically improve your conversion rates.

A website is your digital home

Your main website is where people go to learn about your business. It typically has multiple pages, like home, about, services, contact, and blog, and serves many purposes: building credibility, answering questions, showcasing work, and providing ways to get in touch. A good website gives visitors multiple paths depending on what they're looking for.

A landing page has one job

A landing page is built around a single conversion goal. It might promote a specific service, a limited-time offer, or a lead magnet like a free guide. Everything on the page, the headline, the copy, the images, the CTA button, pushes toward that one action. There's no navigation menu, no links to other pages, no distractions.

When to use which

Use a full website when you need to establish your brand, build trust over time, and give visitors room to explore. Use a landing page when you're running a specific campaign, like Google Ads, social media ads, or email marketing, and you want to maximise conversions from that traffic.

For most small businesses, the answer is both: a professional website as your always-on presence, and landing pages for specific campaigns or services that need focused conversion paths.

The cost difference

A single landing page is cheaper and faster to build than a full website, typically £400–£1,200, because it's simpler in scope. But it can't replace a full website. Think of landing pages as precision tools for specific jobs, not a substitute for your online home.

Which does your business need?

If you're just getting started and budget is tight, a well-designed single-page site can work as a minimum viable presence. But most established businesses benefit from a full website with landing pages for specific campaigns. Not sure what's right for you? Start your project and we'll help you figure it out.
